DESCRIPTION: Located just 20 minutes north of Seattle on the north end of beautiful Lake Washington, the City of Bothell, Washington, has evolved from an isolated logging village to a multi-faceted, full-service city with a resident population of approximately 34,000 and a business population of about 23,000. The city is home to a growing bio-tech community and is preparing to annex approximately 26,000 additional people, which will greatly expand the service delivery area. The city is undergoing extensive revitalization and the next Public Works Director will manage major capital projects with regional significance.

Reporting to the Deputy City Manager, the Public Works Director is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the Public Works Department, which is organized into five divisions: Fleet & Recreation; Facilities & Parks Capital Projects; Infrastructure, Development & Improvement; Administration; and Maintenance Operations. The department has approximately 75 FTEs, not including seasonal and part-time staff, a 2009-2010 operating budget of $29.7 million, a 2009-2010 Capital Improvements Budget of $45,182,840, and 2009-2015 Capital Facilities Plan spending of $315 million.

A Bachelor's degree in public administration, civil engineering, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is desired. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of seven to ten years of experience in a comparable or larger agency, with extensive experience in a senior management role such as Public Works Director, City Engineer or Assistant Public Works Director or similar senior management position. Current registration as a Professional Civil Engineer is a plus but not required.
